Love's timeless spell . . .
The man haunted Sarah now, every time she meditated. She called him her "dark cavalier." He spoke to her often, and in his voice was both pain and healing. Always, there was music there: sad, beautiful music. And images of the house: sometimes beautiful and whole again, sometimes old and abandoned. She sensed she was becoming a part of the house, that she was being drawn into its very soul. Pain dwelled in that soul, along with need and grief. She wanted to understand the house, to embrace its very aura. She knew it was becoming her obsession . . .
Sarah went inside and sat down in her familiar spot, against the parlor wall. A moment later, Casper the cat came bounding in and settled in her lap. She chanted her mantra and soon settled into deep, relaxing meditation. She felt as if cradled by loving arms, profoundly at rest. She was enchanted by images that swept her through the house, up and down the staircase, into the past and back into the present again. Again, the music delighted her, "Beautiful Dreamer," played by Brian's violin, with the haunting accompaniment of the piano. Then the violin faded away, but the piano played on, slightly discordant yet irresistibly hypnotic.
Wake unto me, the voice said. Wake unto me.
And Sarah awakened.
